Ohioana’s collection is housed in the library’s Linda R. Hengst Room, and includes more than 45,000 books, 10,000 pieces of sheet music, and approximately 20,000 biographical files on Ohio writers, musicians, and artists. See below to access the online catalog, finding aids, and other Ohio literature resources.

Most books, periodicals, and sheet music in Ohioana’s collection are included in the State Library of Ohio’s searchable online catalog, which can be accessed by clicking the button below. To see only items in Ohioana’s collection, click Modify Search at the top of your search results page. Then select Ohioana from the Location menu.

Biographical Information

Ohioana’s collection includes more than 20,000 biographical files about Ohio writers, artists, and musicians collected over the past eight decades. Click the links below to see a list of our biographical files and other resources about Ohio writers.

 

Note that the biographical files document will open as a spreadsheet, and is a work in progress. If you don’t see the name you’re looking for, please feel free to contact the library; we’d be happy to check the files.

 

Archival Materials

In addition to substantial book and sheet music collections, the Ohioana Library also holds a number of archival items including scrapbooks, postcards, correspondence and other personal papers, photos, and manuscripts. A few of these materials date back to the 1700s, but the bulk are from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
